The 3rd Annual Musicians of Steel 5K Run/Walk
is in the books!

This past Sunday the Musicians of the Pittsburgh Symphony capped off PSO Gala weekend festivities with our 3rd Annual Musicians of Steel 5K Run/Walk benefitting the PSO Musicians Care Fund! Perfect weather greeted the nearly three hundred people (and many adorable dogs!) gathered at Millvale Riverfront Park for a music-filled morning along the Allegheny River. Orchestre de Nile (featuring Neal Berntsen, Jeff Dee, Eric DeFade, Kevin McManus, Dr. James Moore, Jim Nova, Craig Knox, and Andy Reamer) and AE Honick provided entertainment at the start and finish lines, and half a dozen groups of young musicians, including PSO violinist Ellen Chen Livingston performing with her daughters, serenaded runners and walkers along the course. Mandy Kull led a yoga warmup while Pivot Physical Therapy stretched runners before and after the race. Maestro Manfred Honeck even made a surprise appearance! The Musicians of the PSO extend our warmest thanks to our friends, family, staff, Board, patrons, and everyone else who made this such a special event for the entire PSO family. Let’s have a round of applause for all our sponsors, volunteers, and performers who made this event possible! And best of all:

We raised $10,000 for the PSO Musicians Care Fund!!!

100% of race proceeds go directly to the PSO Musicians Care Fund, a non-profit fund founded by the Musicians of the PSO and administered by The Pittsburgh Foundation which provides support for local school and community music programs that have lost funding.

Who We Are

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is made up of 101 of the world's finest musicians. For more than a century the orchestra has been the cornerstone of Pittsburgh's vibrant cultural landscape. Pittsburgh is remarkable for its commitment to supporting the best cultural institutions in the world. As teachers, parents, volunteers, and civic leaders, the Musicians of the PSO strive to connect with and build our community. We return the city’s commitment to excellence both with great concerts and with a complete embrace of community causes and needs.

Why We’re Doing This

Proceeds from this event will be donated to the PSO Musicians Care Fund, an endowment established by the Musicians of the PSO and administered by the Pittsburgh Foundation. This fund directly benefits local area schools and community music programs that have undergone budget cuts due to funding losses. The fund offers critical support to these programs in a myriad of ways, helping to provide musical instruments, music lessons, instrument repairs, scholarships, and transportation to PSO educational performances. The Musicians of the PSO feel passionately about the value of arts education, and feel the responsibility to aid in the cultural enrichment of young people's lives.
